Key Words
I am a member of edHelper.com and I just discovered a new way to work on my kids’ vocabulary and spelling. They have a feature where you can make a word wall using words that are preset or you can enter your own words. I have made them in the past, but not like I did this time! I used the words from the current book we are reading, The Sea of Monsters which is the second book in the Percy Jackson series. I made the font color blue and set it to “highlight” the vowels in red. Why? Because I use magnet letters that are color coded this way and it has really helped my visual learning child to SEE the spelling of the word. Anyway, when I printed out the word wall words, it matched the way our magnets look.
I hung the words on the door that leads out of our family room so now everytime one of us leaves that room, we say a word, what it means and use it in a sentence. The words are the keys to pass through the doorway. This has been a fun way to learn these words! .

Christie,
I too am a fan of EdHelper. I keep finding new features that make me love the site even more. I haven’t used the site to make a word wall yet, but keep vocabulary and spelling lists that my children use. I recently found a section that has suggested books to read for all grade levels and also material (all sorts of activities) for the children to do for review after reading the book. It helps w/the book reports my oldest does.
I guess I need to check out that Percy Jackson series for my oldest because I keep seeing it mentioned in many places.
