Engagement on Social Networking Sites
I have been thinking a lot lately about the social networking sites that I am a part of, mainly Facebook and Twitter. I have many “friends” and followers. I am curious as to why so many people only post their status and never interact with the people that are reading their posts. I mean, if you are on a social networking site, shouldn’t you make conversation with the people? It just doesn’t make sense to me…
I am a “fan” to some businesses on Facebook and I follow many on Twitter. I really enjoy getting responses back from the businesses. It gives it more of a personal touch! That it why I am so determined to make sure that the businesses that I represent on Facebook and Twitter are interacting with their people. If all the company does is send out “advertisements”, the fans will lose interest and not pay attention to what the business is saying.
I have said before “I’m a talker, not a stalker so if I follow you, I am going to engage in conversation.”
So, what do you think? Do you want interaction with the people you are giving your time to on Facebook and Twitter or do you just want to read their stuff and be done? Let me know what you think.

I’m on both sides of the coin here as both an individual and someone responsible for my business’s social networking and media sites.
Ever since I came to The Leader, I have made it a point to be as personal as possible, commenting on stories and interacting with our readers and now, responding to our Facebook fans and Twitter followers.
In our area, friendly, personal customer service goes a long way. It’s important to me to respond because I want our readers/fan/followers to know that we care about them and we are truly working for them.
There was a time when we had a publisher who told Sherri and I we weren’t allowed to comment on the website (before the Facebook & Twitter pages), but we did it anyway. It’s THAT important.
The purpose of social networking is … drumroll, please … NETWORKING! And if we don’t network with our readers, they won’t network with us.

Exactly Echo!
One of the reasons that I enjoy following The Leader on Twitter and Facebook is because of the interaction. When you feel that comradrie with businesses, you are more likely to stick with them. That is my point with the clients that I serve in my virtual assistant business. I do their Twitter and Facebook pages for them because they just don’t have the time to do it. They are offering excellent customer service by having someone to interact with their customers.
Thanks for your comment Echo!
