Yes, I meant to use the plural form in my title. I am talking about the thoughts that certain foods conjure up.

When I make homemade pimento cheese, I think about my grandmother. She has made it for years! We would have it at family gatherings & I never really gave it much thought until I started making it myself. Grating the cheese is hard work! My grandmother has arthritis in her hands and now that I am making it, I realize the pain she endured just to make something for others to enjoy

Brownies with cream cheese frosting bring me thoughts of my childhood and after school snacks. My step dad made these sometimes for us as desert at night and there would be leftovers so my sister and I would eat them when we got home from school. Brownies feel like home to me

Chocolate covered cherries…oh my! These will always remind me of my mother. I don’t even like them but I still buy them at Christmas because my momma did.

Grilled cheese sandwiches never really stood out anything special before until last October when my family camped with some friends and we made “hobo pies” one night. One of the young people had some issues making a good grilled cheese sandwich and had us in fits of laughter. Now, every time I have a grilled cheese, I think about that night & I smile. I am smiling today.

What are your trigger foods that bring memories, good or bad?

Last week I got to stay with my mom after she had surgery so that I could help take care of her. She had The Bucket List stored in her DVR so I decided to watch it. It was a great movie and I decided that I needed to make a list of things that I want to do. A few days went by and I didn’t start on my list…and then I came across a blog where a mom had posted her list of things to do before she died…I LOVED it! So, I decided that my blog would be the best place for me to post my list. Some of these have already been completed…yay! I took some of them from my “Senior Memoirs” book where I had listed my future dreams. Obviously this will be a work in progress because I will be thinking of more things I want to do. Enjoy!

Recently, Nicole O’Dell sent me two books from her Scenarios for Girls Series so I could read them and share them with the young ladies in my life. The books are written for teen girls and helps them to see where they life choices may lead them.

Magna is about a young lady who gets a job at a clothing store in the mall and she is faced with a dilema between her friends and her job…what does she decide to do? How does her decision affect her? Well, the way the author set it up, you get to read what might happen either way. Remember those chose a path stories we read as a child? It is similar to that except it isn’t about chosing to climb over a broken log or go through a tunnel…it is more about real life situations and how they can affect your entire life and the lives of people around you.

The book was well written for young teens. There were things included that they might be dealing with at their age and some verses and advice on how to handle certain situations. I will definitely be sharing these books with the young girls who I work with at church.

You can purchase the entire series from Amazon.

Any time you spend doing one thing, other things are get neglected…right? If you are spending hours on the computer playing games, your housework isn’t getting done (unless, of course you have a maid!). I have never been a good gardener (maybe someday) but I know if I plant seeds and then don’t tend to them, they will eventually get overrun by weeds and eventually die. The same thing goes for our relationships, especially our marriages. We have someone that we have committed ourselves to and many times we start pursuing our own dreams and begin to neglect the needs of our life partner and without the love and nurturing required, the marriage dies. I have seen it happen far too often and I am tired of it! I may not be able to grow beautiful flowers (yet) but I refuse to let weeds (Satan) infiltrate my marriage and choke the life out of it. I am going to tend to it carefully, pull the weeds, and fertilize. This is why I am once again participating in the S.H.M.I.L.Y. 30 Days of Prayer . We are reading The Power of a Praying wife. It isn’t too late to join us!

I want to share a video with you. It is about story behind Sanctus Real’s song, Lead Me. It is really powerful and is really for the husbands but wives, you will want to hear it as well. After you watch the video of the story behind the song, check out the next video. It is a dramatic video of the song produced by My Bridge Radio. Enjoy!

On June 15, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital will celebrate its 58th birthday with a Grand Opening celebration for its new hospital. The celebration begins with a parade at 10 a.m. around the hospital’s campus. Children, families, doctors and nurses will march in the parade narrated by Roscoe Orman and Sonia Manazon, better known as Gordon and Maria from Sesame Street. A ceremony will follow on the new hospital lawn, at the corner of Poplar Avenue and Dunlap Street. After the ceremony, guests are invited to see portions of the new hospital, which will officially open for patients in late September. Tours will run until 2 p.m. Also, the hospital will host a community open house on Sunday, Sept. 12, from noon to 4 p.m., when more of the hospital will be open for tours. The parade and ceremony will be broadcast live on WMC Channel 5 and http://www.wmcstations.com. Also Monday, June 14 at 6:30 p.m., WREG News Channel 3 will air a live 30-minute special about the new hospital.

When the new Le Bonheur Children’s opens its doors, it will be the largest children’s hospital in Tennessee. Over five years, the hospital and its construction will contribute $3.7 billion in economic impact to our community. More than $100 million of the construction costs were donated by the community, making it the largest fundraising campaign in the city’s history. The $340-million, 255-bed hospital will nearly double Le Bonheur’s current space for patient care, research and teaching. Everything from interior design to state-of-the-art technology is focused on providing exceptional care for children and families. The new Le Bonheur will allow the hospital to continue to be a resource for families; to recruit and retain top talent from around the country; and expand pediatric medicine for decades to come.

Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital opened on June 15, 1952 thanks to the generosity of Le Bonheur Club. The Club released balloons with the hospital keys tied to them with the intention that the doors of the hospital would always be open to children in need. Nearly 60 years later Le Bonheur continues the club’s vision of ensuring excellent health care is available for every child. Founded in 1952, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital is the Mid-South’s first and only comprehensive pediatric medical facility. Every year Le Bonheur treats 130,000 children from across the country and throughout the world. Le Bonheur is home to one of the nation’s 10 busiest pediatric emergency departments and hosts one of the largest pediatric surgical brain tumor programs. The new $340-million Le Bonheur will open for patients in late September. The 610,000-square-foot facility significantly increases the space for patient care, research and teaching. For more information, please call (901) 287-6030 or visit www.lebonheur.org.
